Keeps harmful fishing nets out of our oceans
The Bureo Minnow is a skateboard deck made from recycled fishing nets. A 25″ cruiser featuring a split tail design with fish scale deck pattern for grip. Paired with 30% veggie oil wheels and premium marine grade hardware, this little cruiser offers a quality ride backed by a sustainable purpose. Each skateboard prevents more than 30 square feet of harmful plastic fishing nets from entering our oceans while providing support to local Chilean fishing communities.
Of all the plastic waste littering our oceans, an estimated 10% of plastic pollution comes from discarded fishing nets, which have been found to be four times more harmful than all other forms of plastic pollution. These “ghostnets” drift through the ocean, snagging, strangling and injuring tens of thousands of marine animals every year.
Troubled by the plight of oceanic pollution, three friends set up Net Positiva, a recycling program on the Chilean coast committed to working with locals to turn fishing net pollution into something positive. From this heroic effort, Bureo was born. Meaning “waves” in Chilean, Bureo creates positive from pollution by designing and manufacturing a unique line of sustainable action sports and lifestyle products sourced from recycled fishing nets.
