Removes plastic from our oceans
The Adidas UltraBoost Parley Running Shoe is designed for long city runs with a breathable knit upper that’s made with yarn spun from recycled Parley Ocean Plastic. Energy-returning cushioning and a flexible outsole work together to provide a smooth ride. And each pair accounts for roughly 11 plastic bottles removed from our oceans.
Much of the discarded plastic waste we produce finds its way into our oceans, polluting the water and killing animals. Only for it to eventually make its way back to us in the form of the seafood we eat, filled with micro plastic particles. Global shoemaker Adidas, is looking to build a more sustainable business and address their contribution to the problem. Pairing up with Parley for the Oceans to repurpose millions of pounds of plastic choking the world’s oceans into a variety of high-performance shoes and sportswear.
Adidas kicked off this effort in 2017 with a pledge of 1 million pairs of shoes. This year (2019) they plan to produce 11 million pairs containing recycled ocean plastic, with plans for all their shoes by 2020.
