A delicious more sustainable way to enjoy beer
Developed in partnership with Hopworks Urban Brewery, Patagonia Long Root Pale Ale is crafted in the Northwest-style to provide refreshing grapefruit hop flavors, smooth maltiness, and a dry, crisp finish. Long Root is brewed using organic two-row barley, organic yeast, organic Chinook, Mosaic and Crystal hops, and featuring the grain Kernza.
Listed as one of National Geographic’s foods of the future, Kernza®, a perennial grain from America’s historic Great Plains, has a 10-foot long root system that retains water and produces grain for up to five years. By comparison, standard wheat grown today produces grain for just one year and its roots are less than half the length. This longevity helps keep carbon in the soil, improving ground health and keeping nutrients in place—resulting in richer soil, less erosion, and the need for less fertilizer. Patagonia Provisions has found use for this grain in everything from breakfast cereals to award-winning pale ale.
With the world’s population expected to reach 9 billion by mid-century, requiring a 70% increase in food production, the need for more sustainable food sources has never been more important. Patagonia Provisions works with teams of experts—from farmers, scientists, organizations, universities, and chefs—to determine which products are optimal for shaping a better food future.
