Kiva Global Lending
People generally take access to a bank account and ATMs for granted, safe in the knowledge that their money is secure and close at hand when needed. But approximately 1.7 billion people around the world still remain unbanked—without access to financial services—creating barriers to starting or improving their businesses, education or health. As an international nonprofit, Kiva’s online platform allows people to lend money to low-income entrepreneurs and students in over 80 countries. Through Kiva, women can start businesses, students can pay for tuition, farmers are able to invest in needed equipment, and families can get in a position to improve their lives. Loans can be made to entrepreneurs across the globe for as little as $25. And after the loan meets its fundraising goal, borrowers will start repaying the lended funds over a predefined period of time. As lenders receive repayments, the money can then be used to fund new loans, with 100% of every dollar going to funding loans without any fees or hidden costs.
